Lions Remain in Fourth Place at Blue Devil Invite
After day two of the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday, the Penn State Behrend men’s swimming and diving team remains in fourth place out of nine teams with a score of 297.
FREDONIA, NY – After day two of the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday, the Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team remains in fourth place out of nine teams with a score of 297.
Wheeling Jesuit remains out front with a commanding 441 points, followed closely by Allegheny with 424.5 and Fredonia is third (306.5).
In the first finals event, Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley), Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) finished in third place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:34.70. Roth had the best place of the day, touching in second in the 200 fly in 1:58.05.
Patterson also took third individually in the 500 free with a time of 4:46.37. Roth also made the top eight, coming in fifth in 4:49.51. The freshman also led the Lions in the 200 backstroke. He placed fourth in a time of 1:56.84. This time, Kost was the second Behrend swimmer in the "A" final, taking sixth in 2:01.38.
In the 100 breaststroke, Nguyen made the "A" final and took third overall with a time of 58.47. Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) and Scott Romanko (Plum, PA/Plum) competed in the "B" final, finishing 11th (1:01.64) and 14th (1:04.04), respectively.
Four swimmers qualified for the 100 freestyle "B" final. Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) was first on the team and 11th overall in 49.66. Kyle Frerichs (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) was 13th (49.89) ,Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) came in 14th (50.08) and Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) took 16th (50.82) and all separated by hundredths of a second.
In the first relay of the day, Patterson, Nguyen, Roth and Kost were third in the 400 medley relay in 3:34.70. The night concluded with the 200 free relay team of Myers, Elder, Justin Spence (Houston, TX/Cy-Fair) and Frerichs taking sixth in 1:30.99.
The Lions returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the invite. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
