Lions Take Third at Annual Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational
The Penn State Behrend men’s swimming and diving team fell short of their fourth straight Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational title, finishing in third place with a team score of 461.5 on the final day.
FREDONIA, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team fell short of their fourth straight Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational title, finishing in third place with a team score of 461.5 on the final day.
Fredonia won with a score of 754.5 and Wheeling Jesuit came in second with a total of 735, while Behrend took third.
Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) continued to dominate for the Lions, taking first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.92. He also led the 200 medley relay to second place (1:36.95) along with Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley), Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage).
Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was fourth in the 400 IM, touching in a new program-record time of 4:14.64 and Lloyd Koester (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) was 11th overall to earn points for the Lions (4:59.08)
Simon, Kost, Roth and Steve Torre (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) were able to take fourth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:17.87.
In the 200 freestyle, Roth came in fourth place with a time of 1:48.57 and Elder was second on the team and 10th overall (1.50.89). In the same distance but in the breaststroke, Nguyen was the top finisher for Behrend with a time of 2:17.03 for fifth. Eric Matteson (Corry, PA/Corry) and Garrett Wagner (State College, PA/State College) were seventh and eighth, respectively.
Scott Romanko (Plum, PA/Plum) paced the Lions in the 100 butterfly. He tallied an 11th-place finish in 56.26.
Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Penn State Altoona. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
